How The Garden Cove Grew

Grow Something Different

The Garden Cove is a small homegrown nursery in Des Allemands, Louisiana, built around a simple idea: gardening should be useful, interesting, and a little bit fun.

We grow and offer plants that are well suited to south Louisiana, especially unusual edibles, heat-loving greens, culinary herbs, perennial food plants, and varieties you may not see at a typical garden center.

Some are familiar. Some are a little unexpected. All of them are chosen with our climate and real-life growers in mind.

Made for South Louisiana Gardens

Gardening here is its own kind of challenge.

We have long summers, heavy humidity, sudden rain, intense sun, and growing seasons that do not always match the instructions on a seed packet.

This is why we focus on plants that fit well into the way folks realistically grow here. We are especially drawn to plants that thrive in the heat, grow well in containers, serve a practical purpose, or help people make better use of a small space.

The selection changes with the season, what is growing well, and whatever interesting plant we decide to experiment with next.

Gardening Does Not Have to Be Complicated

Folks do not need a large backyard or a perfect setup to grow something they can cook for dinner.

A porch, patio, balcony, raised bed, or a few pots near the back door can be enough to get started.

The Garden Cove is meant for experienced growers, curious beginners, plant people, and anyone who wants to try growing food but is not quite sure where to begin.

Along with individual plants, we also create compact garden bowls that bring several useful plants together in one container. They are designed to make growing a little easier, especially for folks working with limited space.

Meet the Grower

Hi, I’m Taylor, the person behind The Garden Cove.

I have always enjoyed growing food, trying unusual plants, and figuring out what will actually survive a south Louisiana summer. Over time, I realized that many of the plants I found most useful and interesting were also the hardest to find locally.

The Garden Cove grew from that idea.

It is still a small business, and I am still learning, experimenting, and adding new things as I go. That is part of what I love about it.

My hope is to meet you, and you leave with something you are excited to grow, whether it is a plant you have never heard of, an old favorite, or your very first edible plant.
